Who I am
I’m Matt Johnson. I served as a police officer from 1993 to 2023 and retired at the rank of Inspector. I specialised as a Police Counter Terrorism Security Coordinator (CT SecCo), advising on the protection of crowded places and the built environment, and I also served as a Public Order Commander.
Over thirty years I planned security for events involving royalty, world leaders and senior religious leaders, as well as major music events, festivals and crowded public spaces. I know what the police and planning officers look for, because I used to be on the other side of the table.

Level 6 Advanced Diploma in Counter Terrorism Risk Management (University of Cumbria)
Level 5 Certificate in Crowd Management Safety
NEBOSH General Certificate
Level 3 Certificate in Adult Education and Training
Member of the Security Institute (MSyI) and the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (Tech IOSH)

How I work
Proportionate. Security should match the real threat, the environment and your budget.
Practical. My reports are written to be read and acted on, not filed.
Independent. I’m no longer in the police and don’t speak on their behalf. My advice is my own.
Plain-speaking. I’ll tell you what matters, what doesn’t, and why.
